Tell the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors: Caregivers must be a priority!

30,651 San Bernardino County low-income seniors and people with disabilities rely on 26,461 IHSS caregivers to live as independently as possible in their own home? Caregivers provide support with administering medication, transportation to doctor’s appointments, and grooming and bathing.

According to the CA State Plan on Aging, the senior population (60+) in the county is expected to increase 107% to 550,488 in less than 12 years. Yet, the County's Board of Supervisors have turned their backs on our seniors, people living with disabilities, and caregivers by not allocating resources to the IHSS program.

The IHSS Program, the county’s largest employer, is an economic engine for the community. In 2017 alone, the program helped support an additional 2,149 full time jobs and generated $11.9 million in state and local taxes. Although the county share of cost for the program is less than sixteen cents on the dollar, the workers haven’t received a wage increase in over 10 years.

There is a care crisis in San Bernardino and it's only going to get worse if we do not take action. THE TIME IS NOW! Tell the Board of Supervisors to make seniors, people with disabilities, and their caregivers the priority they need to be before it's too late.
